Honeywell PowerShield™ PV325 is a backing material for rigid photovoltaic
(PV) modules, or solar panels, based on Honeywell’s high-performance barrier
film technology. Honeywell PowerShield is designed to protect PV modules
and their critical components such as solar cells in all types of environments,
including humid conditions. It is UV-, moisture- and weather-resistant, and
helps ensure that modules are a reliable source of energy over their typical
25-year lifetime.
Honeywell PowerShield is being developed primarily for modules that feed in to
a utility or local power grid. The modules collect and convert sun-generated
electricity, serving as a reliable energy source during utility-based power
outages. They also can offset high-peak electrical demands and associated
costs.
The dielectric, or insulator material, has a traditional five-layer design that
includes two outer protective layers based on ethylene-chlorotrifluoroethylene
(ECTFE) fluoropolymer film and a core polyethylene terephthalate (PET) layer,
as well as two inner bonding layers of proprietary adhesive material. The
design is an alternative to traditional backing systems based on poly-vinyl
fluoride (PVF).
